Going through a foreclosure can be one of the scariest experiences a person can have with the legal system.  The good news is that there are many programs available to help individuals stay in their home.  An attorney can help you apply for these programs and guide you through the process and may even be able to defend you if the bank has done something improper.  If you are going through a foreclosure of your home there are some online resources which you are advised to look into but they do not replace contacting an attorney:

www.makinghomeaffordable.gov - The Federal Government's portal for homeowners facing foreclosure.

CHFA - the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority.  CHFA has programs for people at risk of foreclosure including refinancing opportunities, mortgage assistance loans and counseling services.

Connecticut Fair Housing - A statewide non-profit organization which helps low income individuals avoid foreclosure.

Connecticut Judicial Branch - information on the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch's Foreclosure Mediation Program where you work with your bank to try and avoid foreclosure.
